Russian Sleeping Beauty on IceMay 18, 2007
By Dr. Lawrence Pic-kell The program was an enjoyable one, but the stage was so small that skaters had a little difficulty doing their routine. Robin Cousins is such a tremendous skating and I think his idea was good, but they really needed a full rink of ice to perform this well.

DisapointingDec 20, 2007
By R. Amir Although quality of skating and costumes are superb the rink is so small i kept wondering how they don't bump into each other. The rink is tiny small, didn't allow any choreography and skating. It is a ballet on ice but on a tiny rink with no familiar faces. Disappointing altogether.

Superb skating to excellent musicJul 11, 2009

"Tassie Devil"
Not sure why the other reviewers downgraded it so much because of the relatively small rink on the stage. My wife and I just finished looking at it and were engrossed with the spectacular production and superb skating. We were never put off by the size of the stage and were wowed by the skill of the artists. Technically the video is the best possible on DVD and is VERY close to Blu-ray standards. However I cannot say the same about the audio as it was not well balanced with no deep bass and a generally constricted bottom end. DTS was ok but not as good as possible and if the skating and general artistry (costumes, lighting etc) had not been so good I would have downgrade it from the 5 stars given. Bottom line, if you like skating and Tchaikovsky's music, go for it.
My aspiring ice skaters loved it!Apr 01, 2011
By CasaDelSol If you have young ice skaters in your household and you want them to experience a quality production of Sleeping Beauty of Ice, this is perfect. My kids were enraptured (ages 11, 9, and 7)....one child is a figure skater and one a speedskater. I was impressed by the choreography accomplished on such a small ice stage and the beautiful costuming. Would have liked to see more set-changes in this 1994 production, but there were likely good reasons for why that didn't happen. Bravo to the Russian All Stars, well done! There are also bonus tracks of the Sugar Plum Fairy (from The Nutcracker) and The Firebird.

misleading product descriptionNov 16, 2007
By POSSOSUM I bought this movie thinking it was the 1987 version that was shown on TV. Its NOT. Robin Cousins and Rosalynn Sumners are NOT the stars like the product description says. VERY misleading... this movie stars Inna Volianskaya and Valery Spiridonov with choreography by Tatiana Tarasova. I havent opened it yet... because I may return it. If anyone knows where to find "The Sleeping Beauty: An Ice Spectacular" with choreography by Lar Lubovitch (1987) please let me know!!
