Tango With FedericoJul 06, 2009
By Tango Man I was very unimpressed with this instructional DVD. From it you may learn to dance a few steps but not to dance authentic Argentine Tango. To start with some important fundamental concepts are ignored.... posture (of which Federico's is terrible), embrace (partner relationship/ alignment), walking and moving in harmony with your partner (the basis of tango "the walk"), rhythm and musicality, how to improvise. These are fundamentals to be addressed at the outset of your tango experience not after you have become a step meister. Those who dance Ballroom/American tango may find Federico impressive but not those who know anything about "authentic Argentine Tango". So, "YES" I disagree with some of the other reviews regarding how fantastic this series is. Federico doesn't even use his last name on this product....Why?? Any good teacher would proud to have his full name associated with a great product. I don't know what DVD 2 & 3 are like but if they are anything like the first you are wasting your money. There are other much better instructional DVD's and tapes out there. Just do a little research.

Learn an unattractive tangoDec 29, 2010
By FloridaMike Federico is a UK based tango instructor who teaches an odd form of tango somewhere between Ballroom tango and Argentine tango. I've studied Argentine Tango for a couple years with instructors from Argentina, and they'd think Fredrico's tango is pretty laughable. It seems to be made up of a lot of big garish moves done in patterns that go all over the dance floor. It is totally impracticable on a crowded dance floor and just plan looks bad. It especially makes the woman/follower look bad as they take these huge steps that have no romance or grace to them whatsoever. Maybe this is from his supposed Flamenco background, but it is far from real Argentine tango. Also, the teaching method is just plain weird. Without any intro demo to a routine, he starts teaching the leader's steps, so you have no context to know what the dance will actual look like with a partner as he's "teaching." That finally comes after 10 minutes of boring step instruction with no music.
Finally, Federico, himself, is just not a good representative of what ever style he is teaching. He is so awkward and ungraceful and his posture is ridiculous. I can't imagine anyone would actually want to look like this when they are on the dance floor. They'd attract attention, but not the good kind. Some of the worst "stars" on Dancing with the Stars don't look this bad. Save you money and avoid these videos.

Best authentic tango, lead driven, out thereJan 27, 2009
By Dorr Felt Tippens Contrary to another review, Federico's style is the antithesis of ball room dancing. His instructional DVDs are to teach tango as true lead/follow dancing as contrasted to choreographed, ball room style. Yes, this includes building blocks of steps, but no, he does not teach "routines." Following his style of teaching, couples whom prior had never danced together would look like old partners on the dance floor. I've never seen better explained and shown instructions for the lead or the follow. His style is FANTASTIC and makes standard, North American style tango dancing look like "keep on trucking" posters. I have all 3 of his instructional, tango DVDs and they are all superb.
