I'm over 50 and haven't been in dance class since I was a teenager.
For me this is a delight.
I like the voice of the male instructor who speaks as a narrator while the dancers do the exercises.
It's the right pace for me. . . and by the end I'm sweating all over, which is not common for me with many workout videos. It's difficult enough that I'll need to practice with them for a while before getting it all down.
There's a killer abs set and with "floor bar" for leg work lying down. A few standing sets for legs, balance, coordination and some dance moves of course.
They sneak in just enough "plyometric" with little jumps and short dance routines.
It's a nice switch out from yoga and weight training for me.
If you are very young, into hip-hop, jazz, fast past aerobics you probably won't love it. But if you're an older broad like me, you might love it.

I bought this DVD looking for a real ballet class. I did ballet until I was 17 years old, I'm now 30 and really miss it! This DVD is great for begginers and for people like I who've been out of trainning for a long time. The workouts have been created to be done at home. All the barre excercises are done on the floor which is a great, since you probably don't have a barre (chair or table as high as a real barre) to do the workouts on. However I still miss the traditional ballet class that started out with plies, portDeBras, and so on.
Something that I don't like at all concerning the DVD on itself, is that not all the excercises are done equally on both sides, so you end up working out a little more on one side than on the other. But overall it is a great workout, but if you're looking for a typical ballet class this is not it.

30 years old and dancing for the first time in 20 years, thanks to my 3-year-old daughter, who's recently taken up ballet and tap (we're practicing together). These DVDs caught my eye and I thought they would be a great way to enhance my dance practice. Really like them -- the routines are slow-paced compared to other workout videos, but the moves are very focused and deliberate, great for your body. An excellent addition to my exercise routine.

These videos are great for people who are unfamiliar with ballet and are in reasonably good physical shape. Doing the exercises properly will definitely get you toned and more flexible. However, I do not recommend the videos for experienced ballet dancers. The videos will be way too simple and your odds of breaking a sweat are pretty low. There is very little actual ballet in either video, you're better off doing your own barre exercises, pilates and adagio if you really want to work out. I sold the videos to my friend because I got nothing out of them, personally.

I was hesitant at first because I have bought many disappointing workout dvdsin the past but I can securely say I fell in love. It made me feel just like a ballerina and so in control of my body. It really works out my muscles while streching them which leaves me feeling just like an hour long session of yoga would. I feel graceful right after my workout (when I know I am far from it) and the feeling continues. It has helped my posture and I feel my body grow more resistant as well as more flexible. The music is lovely it gave me appreciation of how rhythmic classical music can be. The only slight problem is that on the first dvd the narrator is not in sync with the dancers which can be avoided by just observing them. Once you get used to it you will know it is time to switch it up by the sound of the music. The dancers are a delight to watch, they are so in control of their bodies even the more challenging stuff doesn't phase them (which is to be expected since they are ballet dancers). Overall both dvd's are amazing.
