The Figures are Good, the Teachers AverageApr 09, 2008
By K-3 Teacher I've yet to find a good bachata video. Either the teachers are good and the content is poor or it's the other way around. Why don't some really awesome dancers and teachers create a DVD that has both awesome execution and awesome content? Anyway, this DVD has great content, and it's taught well, but the teachers are not great Latin dancers. The strong point is the set of figures. These are the best and the most essential figures for beginners and for social dancers. If I can't have both good teachers and good content, I prefer to have the content. Bachata videos are hard to find. At this time, no other single video has this collection of good moves.

Good basic instructionSep 26, 2008
By Nananan True, the instructors look like Americans trying to Bachata....it does not have that true Latin look....but, I think the steps are very clearly explained and demonstrated. For people who need instruction broken down into easy to understand steps this is good. However, once you have learned the basic steps it would help to learn the Latin styling. But, my husband would not get up and dance before. So, what if we don't look like Latino dancers, at least we are having fun and this DVD gave us the basics and confidence to get up there and dance.

Excellent DVD!Oct 16, 2007
By G. Garcia
"Gus"
This DVD starts out with the basic step and slowly moves up to more advanced moves. All moves are thoroughly explained and easy to follow. The video is great and it includes examples of different styles of Bachata. Great value.

Bachata is the world's sexiest danceJul 16, 2009
By Robert E. West Bachata is the world's sexiest dance that was banned in Cuba for a few years. Of course that only encouraged the interest in this dance. Can be done apart in two-hand open position, normal closed hold, or chest-to-chest Latin style. In this dance, as in all Latin dances, the "Cuban motion" is most important, and they spend some time on these moves. This DVD also has an introduction to Merengue. The DVD in one hour and 45 minutes long, and at $29.95, that is a good value. One thing I discovered is that Bachata can be danced to various music, not just Bachata music. I have danced it to slower Salsa and Merengue music. Covers: crossbody leads, hairbrush, inside and outside turns, men's turns, free spins, cape position, skaters, dips, pivots, and many others. I recommend this DVD, although it is somewhat conservative vs. the passionate styles of other Bachata instructional DVD'S.

A lot of figures in one videoJan 31, 2009
I bought this video when it was just released about more than a year ago. I am happy to say that I am pleased with this dvd and it has been a good choice. One thing this video has is 25 different figures and also a good number of variations. When I bought this dvd there was no bachata dvd out there with so many moves in one. A few would put the same number of figures in three different dvds calling it basic, intermediate and advanced and charge you three times the amount you pay out for this one. That is absolutely a waste of money. Bachata is a dance with fairly simple rythmic moves that even a beginner get a feel of in no time and advance to a stage where the simple moves can be combined to from a nice dance. Joe and Sarah in this dvd really show all the moves and break it down and also give a few pointers and tips along the way. A good number of combinations of the basic moves are also shown. Agreed it is not like watching a couple dancing out there in a club but in terms of being an instructional video it does a great job. A small clip of various couples dancing in various possible styles is shown though to make point about how it looks like in practice. But again watching advanced latin dancers on the floor sometimes with their often choreographed moves is not really the best way to start learning, particularly if you are a beginner
