The Two GracesOct 10, 2008 Kassar (Karin Hein-Parks and Melanie Wood) are a duo of striking beauty, as well as skill and power. They've put together a marvelous DVD for us to learn from here, on many levels. The "Warmup/Conditioning" is one of the 2 most difficult sections of the program; based on yoga movements, it requires flexibility and strength (Oh! Those upside-down pushups!). It is followed by "Isolations" which teaches us how to do them slowly and in depth.
"Combinations" 1, 2, 3, and 4 are taught step by step, and can be appreciated and danced by all; beginner-intermediate and intermediate-advanced students will all gain something from it. You will need a very agile back and it is great for working on graceful, supple arms. Next come 2 very interesting sections of "Floorwoork," which is the other part of this DVD where the level of difficulty rises because they are hard to do smoothly, and also require healthy knees and strong inner thigh muscles. Kassar recommends you use kneepads for these movements. "Floorwoork" is not included in the "Combinations" choreography, but some of it can be seen in the final performances. "Demonstration/Practice" is where you put the 4 "Combinations" together and dance them continuously.
The 2 costumed "Performances" are captivating. Kassar is sensual and elegant, incredibly talented and with a big touch of class. This is a terrific DVD to add to your dance instruction library. The music by Pete List, inspired with sounds and instruments of India, is also excellent and available on this link:Songs for Kassar.

Very Challenging - Love It!Sep 11, 2008 I might be a bit biased (Karin from Kassar is my bellydance teacher!) but I still do the DVD often even though I take weekly classes with Kassar in person. Sometimes I just do the warmup if I'm short on time. I've really noticed a huge change in my flexibility since I have been doing this warmup routine at least once a week. A must for any bellydancer!!

Fluid Precision dvdFeb 29, 2008 Very comprehensive. Excellent breakdown of the moves that is easy to follow. Nice mix of performance and instruction. Included resource list with music used on the dvd. This dvd is as good as being in a workshop with them.

Not Precise.Dec 14, 2007 I wish I could return this.
It feels like they rushed the making of this DVD. They clearly didn't spend enough time preparing the material they presented. They needed to practice their sequences more. The camera work during the performances was awful. With a name like Fluid Precision, you expect precision, and this isn't precision.
There is a 25 minute warm up (work out) with some exercises that are quite hard on the knees. Warm ups are important, but this had a great deal of basic exercises. I expected dance moves, not toning for my triceps. Some exercises and stretches are helpful and even essential for dance, but this goes well beyond. The warm up is a workout DVD, featuring ladies in strange jagged leather hip-wraps.
Then Isolations for 15 minutes. It is clear they don't think this is important, both by their dancing and the time they allot for it in their DVD. Suffice to say that they could stand more practice themselves in this area.
Then they teach short sequences that eventually build up into dances (in theory the reason I bought this DVD). The explanations of the moves are halting and not helpful. They pause mid sentence frequently, as if searching for words. Their movements are often not clear, which makes following their muddled descriptions even harder. Often one will do a move different than the other, such as when one does a move with her feet together, while the other has her feet wider than hip width.
A couple of short floor work sequences (which were taught better than the previous sequences) some performances with eclectic camera work, and you are done.
I think these ladies are capable of more, if they spent more time preparing, but this DVD is just awful.
