5Well done history of disco and party peopleApr 08, 2009
I use to be a go go boy, then disco disc jockey, back in the 70's,the last big party movement the planet had,and it was fun being brought back to that very magical time...Disco was a very exciting, fun time, and it had a soundtrack all it's own...The video was produced very tastefully, and is chock full of information and interviews with alot of the very cool people that made it all happen...I loved it!

1Disc goSep 20, 2007
Absolutely one of the most boring 1/2 hours that I have ever spent. There were snipets of wonderful music, but no real music. It could have been great but was poorly done. It looked like something put together with little or no thought. It was spinning the story alright just not the disco story. Giving it a 1 star is overly generous.

5Reliving the good old days.Aug 16, 2007
Forget all the negative comments about this DVD. For the money (buy it used) it's a lot of fun to see interviews with disco pioneers, historical footage, as well as a few performance clips (it is a documentary so don't expect to see a lot of complete performances). As you watch the DVD you may not realize the significance of the people it features. Get Peter Shapiro's book, Turn The Beat Around and look up some of the names and you'll find that this DVD is featuring the "founding fathers" of disco (such as Earl Young - look him up). What more could a 70s child ask for!

2Not a very entertaining documentary about something that is very entertainingMay 24, 2007
The problem with this documentary isn't that they haven't researched it. Nor is it that they don't have a bevy of people talking about it and how disco changed so much. They have empirical evidence of its roots too. In fact, by and large there is a huge amount of information here. The problem is that it's just not very entertaining. The advertising for this documentary would have us believe that we are going to see performances by a multitude of performers, when in fact, what we see are snippets of performances. Do we really want to see all of the performances that are identified....no, but there is so much time spent on the roots of disco that the actual disco portion is far from thorough.

The DVD extras should have many "videos" (there were none back then, but there were performances from shows they could show), but we only are offered two.

My teen aged son really liked disco until I sat him down to watch this DVD. He was clamboring to leave the room within fifteen minutes. Truth be told, so was I....
