A Perfect Concert DVDJun 06, 2005
By John Erle Mundle
"DJ @ Dynamic Range Radio"
Big Country were one of the most under-appreciated bands of the rock era, and if you want proof of this, just pick up this excellent live DVD and see them at the top of their game. Recorded in Glasgow, Scotland's Barrowlands Ballroom in front of a rabid hometown crowd, this concert shows a band that had been around long enough to give a very polished, professional rock & roll show, while still retaining the energy and passion that made their early concerts so memorable. The first five songs are acoustic performances, giving an earthy, authentic folk-rock feel to classics like "Chance", "Harvest Home", "13 Valleys", and "The Storm". The electric portion of the set kicks off in fine fashion with "Look Away", which has never sounded better, and includes rousing versions of "Wonderland", "Steeltown", and several songs from the Buffalo Skinners LP which sound far better live than they ever did in the studio. If you think "In A Big Country" was the only good song this band ever recorded, this DVD will be a real eye-opener.

"Without The Aid Of A Safety Net" is an awesome dvd, and a real treasure find for someone who was never lucky enough to see Big Country play live. Stuart, Tony, Bruce, and Mark deliver the goods in this performance, and I'm sure that every fan of Big Country would want to have this DVD in their collection. The show starts with some acoustic performances of several songs, before kicking off the electric part of the show. I cannot recommend this highly enough.

Best Big Country DVD YET!!!!!Mar 11, 2010
By J. makar This is a MUST BUY for any Big Country fan. This is a great concert that I wish I could have been at....it shows the band at its best as far as I am concerned. My only regret is that Stuart Adamson is no longer with us, he was a GREAT TALENT and is sorely missed.
DVD does not play in my DVD playerJan 18, 2012
By Helen Ambrose Beware, this DVD is in PAL format. (European format) It works only on my computer. (I'm in the US) Even on the computer, the video quality is quite poor. But I give 3 stars only because of the quality of the band, BC, and this is a wonderful concert because it's both acoustic and "loud guitars". Stay alive.
Won't PlayFeb 19, 2011
By davebob The reviews are correct. This is a fabulous concert and a must have for any Big Country fan. Well worth the money and five week wait. Too bad I have to watch it on my computer because the PAL format will not play in any of my DVD players. There was nothing in the product description that mentioned any possibility of compatability issues with USA DVD machines.
