An intermediate-level choreography, Arabian Spices teaches moves and technique that every dancer can use to spice up her style. The DVD breaks the choreography down into eleven sassy combinations, designed for ease of study. Each combination is demonstrated, then broken down slowly with attention given to technical isolations. The combinations are then repeated several times at tempo. Small groups of combinations are reviewed together to build the choreography. The DVD ends with a special performance of Arabian Spices by members of Urban Gypsy. | | | Product Details: | | | Actors:

if you love tribal fusion.......Nov 30, 2009 i am over 50 years old and have been dancing for only a few years. Tribal fusion is a new style for me,what little i had seen of it i rather liked. I saw the preview of Arabian Spices on World Dance New York site, and was immediately interested.
This is the first tribal-anything instructional dvd that i have purchased, and i would strongly recommend it to anyone who is even remotely interested in this dance style.
I found the dvd easy to follow, and enjoyable. I love Sahira's style, she is a lovely dancer and a very good teacher. She made the steps/combinations seem incredibly easy, and fun.
There is no warm-up or cool-down exercises on this dvd, but you really should be able to do those for yourself anyway. I thought there was plenty of practice time for each combination, but for those who feel differently, rewinding each section is easy, as all the combinations are nicely set out.
It probably is more intermediate level, but please don't be put off by this if you aren't at that level yet.
All in all, I loved this dvd, play it nearly everyday, and enjoy it just as much each time.
One of the Best out thereOct 06, 2009 In my opinion, Arabian Spice is probably one of the best fusion routines out there. Sahira explains the moves wonderfully and it is easy to learn for many levels. There's not much more I can say that hasn't already been said here other then this DVD is a must have!

Is it worth it?Jun 11, 2009 Arabian Spices is a nice choreography with that said it was a rather simple choreography to me which is good. I got this just to learn a choreography I didn't have any expectations out of it so it was nice.
It is visually nice but it is not a loaded combo kind of choreography.
It is very mellow and the moves are beginner/beginner intermediate moves.
A lot of undulations and hand patterns were used.
Some of the hands moves are known more to tribal dancers than say egyptian so it may take a while to get the hand movements down if you are not familiar but it will not be a super hard challenge. There is no tutorial about the moves and Sahira really does not dwell too long on the break-down of them. But again these moves are not too difficult .

The choreography reminded me of an actual prayer. I could honestly see this routine in a ritual dance. Sahira is a wonderful dancer and her moves are very graceful and precise. I think I will use this choreography and modify it.As for the price this dvd is not worth $20.00
No way when you start getting into the 20's and 30's your talking about Iamed dvd's but it is nice. Around 10 and 15 is reasonable.
I have dvd's that are way more advanced in technique with choreography that are less.
The moves are drilled in enough she even has review sections after a certain amount of chapters. So you can try the combo as a whole and piece it together. I think newer bellydancers will enjoy this challenge and older bellydancers will enjoy the smooth choreography.

Dramatic crowd pleaserJan 07, 2009 This dance is fun to learn and really takes advantage of tribal moves from a group of pro dancers. It's a good show stopper if you can pull off the synchronization! It would help to have a previous knowledge of your core isolations so you don't end up hurting yourself unknowingly, there is no real in-depth review of isolations used.

If you really want to teach yourself tribal bellydance, get this.Sep 13, 2008 I have a lot of bellydance tapes that I love. Some are really instruction heavy, and will teach you what you need to know, but many are intimidating because the instructors are at a really high level of fitness, and it's difficult to practice with them for more than ten minutes without being in, "O.k., time to do a difficult workout" mode.
If, however, you're more of a beginner, and what you need is, a) names of the movements, b) explanation as to what the teacher is really doing, and c) choreography practice that is fairly slow and repetitive, but not unnecessarily repetitive or too fast, this is really, really good.
Sahira is a very good teacher. I feel like I can practice with her, without getting really exhausted. (There are many wonderful instructors: however, it takes someone who is a gifted teacher to teach well below their own level of dance.)
I'm so impressed. The production values aren't fantastic, and this obviously wasn't made for a lot of money, but it's a really useful tape; a lot of effort was put into making this. Sahira is easy to understand and explains the movements clearly.
Finally, the last part of this is a performance. One of the dancers is visibly overweight--kudos for including a normal person! The performance itself was filmed in a typical middle eastern Texas restaurant: nice middle eastern furnishings on what looks like a Brownsville terra cotta floor.
The dancers have interesting costumes. They aren't flashy and they look partially homemade. Someone spent a lot of time putting together layers of seams.
The music is typical of Houston techno, meaning it's synthesizers, but fairly subtle. The performance itself is polished, and inspiring.
I can't say this enough: if you really want to learn tribal bellydance, but you are a beginner, this is a good place to start.
